Are you missing out on potential sales by not offering personalised cards within your photography packages?

Cards sent via the post tend to drift in and out of favour and being a product with a notoriously slim profit margin for photographers, the inclusion of personalised cards in packages and collections has dwindled in recent years. Communication is so much easier than in the past and people are more connected than ever with social media, DM's, texts and mobiles... or are we actually more disconnected because of all of that? With the arguable overload of social media and electronic communications and the need to stand out from the crowd, physical card deliveries for all different occasions are firmly IN at the moment.

So What Could You Be Missing Out On?

Although such a simple product, cards hold SO much potential for your business. Imagine creating a card design for a client, as simple as possible with your favourite image on the front from their recent shoot, blank insides and your logo and contact details on the back; personalised for the client and unobtrusively branded for your business. These cards are then handed out to your clients closest friends or relatives, an effective personalised recommendation of your services to their loved ones. Marketing to your clients friend's should be a top priority in your marketing methods, as the majority of the time friends and relatives mirror your values, lifestyle and often even monetary factors, so if your recent client is your IDEAL client, their friends could be as well! Even offering 10 cards to every client would increase your reach tenfold which is a worthwhile investment by anyone's standards.

"Cards are Outdated"

Some may say cards are a pastime and for some clients this may be true. So what's changed our minds about cards this year? As a trusted lab, SIM works as a fulfilment partner for PicTime - a revolutionary platform for photographers to offer everything their clients require in one place from galleries to purchases & even designing their own printed products.

As a platform, PicTime offers photographers the opportunity to add products to their online "shops" from different fulfilment labs. This then allows their customers choose which elements they want to buy from a huge array of choices. So far this year, we have seen a huge increase in clients ordering packs of personalised cards of their own fruition to send out to friends and family. Does this mean cards are back? Or are clients missing cards not being readily available from photographers anymore? If clients have rarely bought cards from your packages, it's time to check through what you're offering from the top. Do you have samples? Is your promo photography representative of your current client avatar/your ideal client? Check your pricing, have you over worked the margins on this product? How is this showcased to your customer, as part of a collection or part of your "a la carte" menu? All these elements come together to create a successful or not successful product sale. Worried your photography doesn't fit with cards? Think again! Greeting cards, engagement cards, thank you cards, new baby cards, new home cards, Christmas cards etc, the opportunities are endless.

With a set of 10 cards fully printed and including envelopes starting from only £12, your profit margins do need to be in the green to ensure it's worthwhile for you, even if you cover your purchase costs but not your time. Cards can be an investment in terms of your marketing, but there's no need for them to be a loss leader if you're pricing your packages correctly. Offer these as an optional extra to clients who are already purchasing collections, or send out an email to past clients offer them a set for Christmas at a great price and a quick boost in sales. You can even include cards in your larger packages as a "free gift" that you've costed into your margins already, clients love it when you over deliver and handing over something they weren't expecting is always a hit! Using this method also eliminates the step of client proofing and going back and forth with any changes as it was a free gift, they have no expectations therefore, you can create your design to your own specifications and order at a time to suit you. If you're including cards in some of your popular collections, don't forget you can order up to 5 different designs / projects on SIM Imaging at any one time so you could consolidate 5 clients and save on postage.
